Commonly referred to as the "Red" album and the "Blue" album by fans. After the Beatles broke up in 1970, compilations were abound for the next decade or so. Most of them have gone onto vinyl heaven and never made transistion to the compact disc. These 2 were thankfully the exception.

These served as sort of the two "greatest hits" packages of the Beatles, although that label doesn't really do justice. There are plenty of material on these two releases that were never (close to) hits and there are many favorites that received airplay that didn't make the cut here. Regardless, this still served as the greatest compilation of the Beatles work. To be fair, the transition to compact disc didn't work as well (does it ever with double albums that can't be squeezed onto one CD?). So it takes persuasion to shell out so much money for each one of these sets - but they're still a great addition.
