Along with Greatest Hits Volume II , this is a "must" for any collection. It's pretty much what it says it is. In only five years, Elton had collected masses of well known material and it seemed unfair to weed them down to only ten songs (Candle in the Wind from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was added to the CD pressing). Another thing to consider was some songs were hits on one side of the Atlantic and not the other, and vice versa.

What was selected was Your Song and Border Song from Elton John, Honky Cat and Rocket Man from Honky Chateau, Crocodile Rock and Daniel from Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player,Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Bennie and the Jets and Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Don't Let the Sun go down on Me from Caribou.

The buyer must remember that although there were other "hits" before this was released, the majority of well known numbers do appear on subsequent compilations. This release, however, has the distinction of being one of the best selling albums of all time with no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
